Even a basic hike is made all that much more special by panoramic views of all that is beautiful about the Valley. Hike to the top of Mt. Pinos and fall in love with the views of the coast, or hike to the end of historic Ventura Pier and spend some quality time fishing, people-watching, or being awed by a Ventura Valley sunset. Watching the surfers catch some waves at Surfers Point Beach is another fun thing to do on a lazy vacation afternoon; we like to pack a lunch and picnic on the days when waves are particularly high!

Indoors Can Be Nice, Too!

The Ventura Valley has a long and rich history, something that is apparent when you take a day to museum hop. The Museum of Ventura County had relatively humble beginnings; Dr. Cephas Bard from Pennsylvania moved here to start a practice after the Civil War, and because money was in short supply, would often take the treasures his patients offered in lieu of payment. The exhibits housed in this now 15,000 square foot establishment still retain much of its humble beginnings, with many pieces from the collection of Dr. Cephas Bard. Another example of cultural history is the Mission San Buenaventura, which was constructed in 1749 and is still in use today. Tours of this historic structure are offered daily.
